There sure have been much of recent reminders of how terrible the Chernobyl tragedy of 1986 was. I didn't really grasp the order of magnitude of the event until I watched HBO's Chernobyl show in 2019. The early episodes were vivid depictions of the brutal conditions people faced in the first hours of the meltdown.
